The Holy Scriptures
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." — *2 Timothy 3:14-15*
We live in an age of information overload. Every day, we are bombarded with opinions, news cycles, and " *truths* " that seem to change by the hour. In the middle of this noise, it is easy to feel adrift.
Paul’s letter to Timothy offers a different path. Writing from a dark prison cell, Paul didn’t tell Timothy to look for the "next big thing." Instead, he told him to look back to the foundations.
1. *The Power of "Continuing*"
In verse 14, Paul uses a powerful word: Continue. In a world that prizes "new" and "trendy," the Bible calls us to faithfulness. Timothy was encouraged to stay the course because he wasn't just following a theory—he was following a lived experience. He had seen the faith modeled by his mother and grandmother (Lois and Eunice) and his mentor, Paul.
*Reflection* : Our faith is built on the daily decision to continue in the truths we have learned.
2. *Wisdom vs. Knowledge*
We often confuse information with wisdom. You can know every fact in the Bible and still miss the point. Paul reminds us that the Holy Scriptures have a specific, divine purpose: to make you wise for salvation.
Unlike a textbook that gives you data, the Bible gives you direction. It reveals the character of God and the reality of our need for a Savior. It doesn't just inform the mind; it reforms the heart.
Changes with the culture--- *Stands firm forever*
Offers temporary solutions----- *Offers eternal salvation*
*Often leads to pride---Always leads to Christ*
Focuses on the "Self"---Focuses on the Savior*
3. *A Childhood Foundation* , A Lifelong Journey
Paul mentions that Timothy had known the Scriptures "from infancy." This is a beautiful reminder of the importance of spiritual legacy. Whether you were raised in the faith or found it later in life, the Scriptures are designed to grow with you.
The Bible is the only book where the Author is always present when you read it. It is "living and active" (Hebrews 4:12), meaning a verse you read ten years ago can speak to your heart in a completely new way today.
*Picking Up the Book Today*
If you feel overwhelmed by the chaos of life, return to the " *Holy Breath* " of God found in His Word. You don't need to read five chapters a day to start; you just need to start. The Scriptures aren't a burden to be carried; they are a lamp that carries us. They point us away from our own confusion and toward the person of Jesus Christ—the only source of true salvation.
*A Challenge for the Week* :
Pick one "anchor verse" from the New Testament this week. Write it on a sticky note, put it on your mirror, and let it be the first thing you "continue" in every morning.
